About

Quiet Waters Pet Crematorium was started as a family business in the late 1990s by the Harms family on Burma Road. And now in September 2022, the mantle has been passed to another “pet family” — the Secord/Nyland crew. The wee cabin and crematorium structures have been moved just 1 km further down to 884 North Klondike Highway.

The philosophy of the business remains the same. “Our family cares for your pet as if it were our own, and make sure they are treated with the dignity that they deserve. Pets are our family”.

Sandy Secord is the managing crew member and is featured in a photo below beside one of her beloved pets, Nevin, who has gone across the rainbow bridge a couple of years ago.

The Secord/Nylands lived on an acreage south of town for many years. The children grew up surrounded by various farm animals and pets. The family hobby farm is now located north of town. There are always animals and many are and have been rescued animals.

Her grown up children — Gavin, Kara, and Heiko Nyland — are also featured in the photo below. It was taken near their current farm property.

Note from Sandy: “As an Animal Health Technologist, I have cared for animals of all kinds for over 20 years. Owning Quiet Waters is allowing me to extend my care beyond the medical side. With the help of my children, quiet waters will continue the respect, compassion, and courteous care of your animal family members.”

Harms Family History with Quiet Waters: All of their family have been involved at one time or other. There is an article in the Yukon News from 2008 about their family adventure to have an option for pets in the end of life in our land of ice and snow.
